Big Creek Golf & Country Club had international visitors last week for the United States Golf Association - USGA U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier on July 1.
On Friday, July 1, Uriah Standridge officially signed a national letter of intent to play college baseball for the Trailblazers of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home. Standridge became only the second player signed to the brand-new program at the ASUMH.
The Yellville-Summit Panthers Babe Ruth team finished the season Monday, June 27, with a perfect record 10-0. The team defeated Valley Springs 9-1 and Marshall 11-0 in the Harrison Parks and Recreational League. Bryce Ott and Hunter Raley were the winning pictchers for the record.

Growing up in a family of athletes and coaches, I’ve been around (and loved) sports my entire life. But, before Title IX became law in 1972, there were very few opportunities for me and many other girls around the country to play organized sports. I and my friends didn’t really question that. It was what it was, and it was all we’d ever known. I did kind of wonder, when my mom talked about playing on state championship basketball teams in high school, why I didn’t have that opportunity. But none of the girls I knew ahead of me in school had, so, again, it was what it was.
