JASPER — Acorn or “akern,” no matter which way you pronounce it, those little nuts falling from oaks during the 2022 Arkansas elk hunt played a pivotal role in hunters fulfilling a lifelong dream last month. According to Wes Wright, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Elk Program coordinator, a heavy crop of acorns kept most elk in the woods and away from the traditional fields during the hunt, resulting in 26 elk during the scheduled elk season.

Friday, October 28, the Yellville-Summit Panthers traveled to Newport to face the Greyhounds for the regular season’s final conference football game. The Panthers won the coin toss to start the game and elected to receive the opening kickoff.

Jonathan, the #16 seed in the bracket, faced a second-round match against #1 seed Luke Jackson after getting by Aaron Millsap in his first match. Jonathan edged out Luke 1 Up w a par on the 18th to Luke’s bogey.

MOUNTAIN HOME - Alyssia Barton is the 2022 Big Creek Golf & Country Club Women’s Stroke Play Club Champion. Alyssia edged out runner-up Judy Matty by two shots. Past Champion Janet Cooper Wood finished third. Judy won the net division by six strokes over Janet. MOUNTAIN HOME - Big Creek Golf & Country Club had a really fun Member/Member 2-day, four-ball tournament over the weekend. The threat of rain Saturday held off and turned out to be light sprinkles on the last couple of holes.

The Yellville-Summit Panthers hosted the Atkins Red Devils in Panthers Stadium Friday, October 21, at 7 p.m. in a conference football game. The Panthers celebrated Senior night with conditions perfect for the celebration.

The Yellville-Summit Panthers traveled to face the Salem Greyhounds in a conference contest Friday, October 14, at 7 p.m. The conditions were clear skies with a south wind blowing approximately 10 mph and a temperature of 78 degrees at game time.
