A fair day’s wage . . .

It takes a special person to work in a public service career. Public service professionals serve their community in immeasurable ways by offering social services, educating children, protecting the welfare of others and promoting public health. For this reason, I have never understood why the salaries of public servants are often much less than the salaries of other professions. It’s a sad state of affairs when occupations such as professional athletes earn unfathomable amounts of money in the form of a salary. I’m of the mindset that if you want insight into what a business, society, family or employer does value, just follow where money is spent. If this is true, society has proven over time that professions such as police officers, EMTs, teachers, First Responders, and social workers are not truly appreciated. At the root of being valued is respect.

WASHINGTON––U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement promoting Small Business Saturday on November 26: “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the lifeblood of our communities. They employ our family members, friends and neighbors while also giving back and supporting initiatives that enhance our quality of life and strengthen our shared identity. Searching for Treasure

I am a beachcomber, I reckon. Didn’t know what that was until I saw it in a magazine the other day. About 4 or 5 years ago I was in Canada on Lake of the Woods fishing for Walleye, Bass, Pike, Crappie and Yellow Perch. I’m like that in Canada; the fishing is up and down beneath the boat… no casting. You just find 25 to 30 feet of water and bob a jig or a minnow up and down off the bottom until something grabs it and then you put whatever you can net into the live well and put on a new minnow.
