Submitted by Randy Zellers, AGFC Loblolly and shortleaf pines are the only two native pines in Arkansas. Shortleaf pine has a range throughout the state except in lowland areas.
According to the US Drought Monitor, 100 percent of the state was classified as “abnormally dry” or worse on the July 12, 2022, report, and drought conditions existed in most of the state, peaking in mid-October. The second factor is flooded soils during the growing season.

LITTLE ROCK – Historic Arkansas Museum will host its 2nd Ever Hop-Off competition on Friday, July 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at its historic grounds, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock. The Hop-Off, a friendly competition for the best historic homebrew in town, takes place during the museum’s 2nd Friday Art Night, a monthly event that is free and open to the public.
