US Army veteran David Herd was born on July 25, 1947, in Adrian, Michigan, where he lived until he was 10 and moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. After he attended high school, he joined the army in 1966 and was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for his basic training.
