Spring is Sprung. Or has it?

They say it’s Spring. But how do you know for sure? At first glance, it’s hard to tell it apart from Fall. Sure, the snow is melting. But underneath, there are the dead, brown leaves. Again. You may wonder: What the heck? I thought I bagged those up?! No, you bagged other leaves. But then more, other leaves fell and/or blew into your yard. Then it snowed. And you cannot bag leaves under the snow. Thus, there are the dead, brown leaves. Again. Sigh.

Avoid these mistakes in the turkey woods

LITTLE ROCK — Col. Brad Young isn’t just chief of law enforcement for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, he’s a dyed-in-the-wool hunter who was introduced to the turkey woods by his grandfather when he was 7 years old. Crappie on the half shell

CASSCOE — As the old adage states, the dogwoods are blooming, so the crappie are biting. With that, spring is a great time to fill a cooler full of slabs. With a statewide limit of 30 crappie, a few good days of spring fishing can yield many meals for friends and family. While crappie is most often fried, there is no law that says it must be. The mild flavor of crappie makes it a great choice for a variety of dishes. My favorite non-fried crappie dish is Cajun crappie on the half shell.

Finding peace

The world is moving at an unprecedented pace. We are often blitzed with information from every direction by the world and our interactions. The internet has brought the world and its turmoil into our personal space on a 24/7 cycle. Our brains are overstimulated and often overloaded. Our ancestors’ lives though fraught with hardships did not have the stresses of lives in perpetual movement. One must wonder if the incessant quest to be moving, having somewhere to go or do is an avoidance tactic or a way to hide from pain and disappointment. I often wonder how children with nonstop schedules of activities and events are coping. People need down-time, time for rest, reflection, and peace. Overstimulated brains process slower, and memory is one area where it is appears first. I’ve read that chronic stress damages the brain.
