It’s been another busy, busy week at Have a Heart...and we love it! In addition to our local dog and cat adoptions, we sent six dogs to new homes in Massachusetts where their forever families were waiting for them, and 18 puppies went to Missouri where they will have much greater chances to find loving homes.

Peggy Mason contributing Columnist Diving ducks completely submerge themselves underwater to grab aquatic vegetation from the bottom or chase food, such as fish or invertebrates. They have adapted narrower, pointier, and overall smaller wings, which are perfect for swimming underwater.

Peggy Mason contributing Columnist Head to almost any water habitat, and you are likely to see at least a few ducks swimming around. You will be amazed at all the ducks that can be seen around the state of Arkansas.

Have-A-Heart Pet Shelter Hi there! My name is Blizzard, and the volunteers tell me I’m a “Pet of the Week.” I’m not sure what that means, but I hope it means I’ll have my own human(s) soon! Don’t get me wrong. They are all very nice here at HAH and they take good care of me and my friends, but I’m three whole months old and it’s time for me to have my own home.

Temperature extremes, drought and storms take a toll on our landscapes. Sometimes a bit of pruning, proper care and patience is all that is needed to help plants recover.

Peggy Mason contributing Columnist Hello readers and friends of the Mountaineer Echo, I hope this week finds everyone in good health and happy spirits. This week has been busy, I am finally feeling better and back at work.

Withrow Springs State Park is a 786-acre public recreation area with campgrounds and hiking trails located five miles north of Huntsville, Arkansas. Nestled cozily in Arkansas’ slice of the Ozark Mountains, Withrow Springs State Park is named after Richard Withrow who established the area’s first grist mill.

A few weeks ago I wrote about setting deadfalls to control small predators from weasels to raccoons. Deadfalls sets are illegal and in this time of over-populations of the egg eaters that keep quail numbers low and impact wild turkey numbers, they should be put in use.
