“The Life and Times of the Pool Hall Kid” Part 1

Ol’ Bill and Ol’ Jim, both said it was the best outdoor story they had ever read. I was proud of it, the account of a young English Setter that had run off with a red wolf and had a litter of half-wolf puppies. I had written it right there at the pool hall one evening after school, in between racking balls and collecting money for my dad at the age of twelveand- a-half. Mrs. Murrell, one of my 8th grade teachers, who actually disliked me less than most of ‘em had given her English class the assignment of writing a story. She was going to read the best one out loud, and I was hoping it would be mine.

Have-A-Heart Pet Shelter The dog featured this week is one of these examples. Opal’s owners moved away and left her behind. The kind neighbors took her in and began feeding her before realizing she was pregnant. They cared for her until she had her 12 puppies. The pups got accepted into the Shelter’s puppy partner program and once weaned, were sent to a metropolitan city out-of-state to be adopted. Then Opal was brought to the Shelter so we can find her the perfect home.

Last week was another busy one at Have-AHeart! Several adoptions, a successful yard sale, and more. And now we are gearing up for our booth at Turkey Trot, October 14-15, where we’ll be selling Patrick’s yummy homemade dog treats. If you want to be rewarded with lots of thankful tail wags, be sure to come by our booth and purchase some for your furbabies!
