CONSUMER ALERT: Toll Road Robotext Scam

LITTLE ROCK – Attorney General Tim Griffin issued the following statement alerting consumers to a scam that has recently made its way to Arkansas: “A new texting scam has reached Arkansas. Under this ‘smishing’ scam—a combination of ‘SMS’ (texts) and ‘phishing’—scammers attempt to steal consumers’ personal information and trick consumers into handing over funds by impersonating a state toll service.

Two People die in Tornado

The names of the two (2) people who died because of the recent storms on May 26, 2024, are identified as follows: A 13-year-old juvenile of Yellville; James Victor Beck, 58 years old of Yellville; The deaths were investigated by the MCSO, who were assisted at both scenes by area first responders.

Monarch Butterflies

BENTON — Monarch butterflies are flitting their way around Arkansas and now is a good time to make these highly recognizable, but vulnerable, pollinators feel at home. “The first batch of monarch caterpillars has emerged here at the Saline County Extension Office which is one of my favorite times of year,” said Nichole Nichols, Saline County extension agent for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.

An Odd Duck

I watched as a mother wood-duck crossed an old road high on a ridge top, closely followed by three ducklings which I am sure had hatched that very day. She was a good quarter mile from the river, but intent on getting the young ducklings there as quickly as possible.

Flags to Half-Staff

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders orders all flags to be flown at Half-Staff to mourn the lives lost in the tornadoes during the early morning of May 26. The communities of Marion, Baxter, Benton and Boone Counties suffered significant damage to homes, businesses and property.
