Pets of the Week

Another busy week at Have-A-Heart Pet Shelter (HAH) as we gear up for this week’s Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic, the first of 2023. But we never forget there is a whole shelter full of sweet dogs and cats who are waiting patiently for their furever homes.

Growing Up Flippin

By Cindy Wood Young One of the banes of many adults’ existence is the seemingly never- ending pile of dirty laundry. This is especially true if you have kids. My earliest memories of laundry in our house were, after we moved back to Flippin from Springfield. In our house on Alford Street, I recall Mom having an old wringer washing machine which was housed out in our garage. To my recollection, we never had a dryer.

Crooked Creek Conservation

Do you remember what your pastures looked like last summer during the drought? Were they brown and bare or were they still maintaining some fodder for livestock to consume? What changes do you need to make to your pastures to be able to provide adequate nutrition for livestock in the case that we have another drought? These are questions we need to ask ourselves as we plan for changes or additions to our pasture management. Are some forages more drought tolerant than others? Typically, a warm season grass will have qualities that help it maintain through dry conditions.

I was out in the woods about a week ago and I heard a familiar sound high overhead, the call of wild geese. There are not a lot of people who hear specklebelly geese and recognize the fact that they are not snow geese or Canada’s.
