A fair day’s wage . . .

It takes a special person to work in a public service career. Public service professionals serve their community in immeasurable ways by offering social services, educating children, protecting the welfare of others and promoting public health. For this reason, I have never understood why the salaries of public servants are often much less than the salaries of other professions. It’s a sad state of affairs when occupations such as professional athletes earn unfathomable amounts of money in the form of a salary. I’m of the mindset that if you want insight into what a business, society, family or employer does value, just follow where money is spent. If this is true, society has proven over time that professions such as police officers, EMTs, teachers, First Responders, and social workers are not truly appreciated. At the root of being valued is respect.

Bow, Rifle or Both

I want to apologize to readers of this column for not having the publication, “The Truth About the Missouri Department of Conservation” mailed out yet. We are very, very close, so please be patient. If your name is not on the list to get that free publication, you need to call my office and being line to receive one. They have to be mailed out this month because postage increases after December, and we don’t want the additional expense. At this time the cost of 5000 publications is nearly six thousand dollars.

Christmas at ASUMH

Arkansas State University - Mountain Home presents an annual Christmas Light drive-through viewing experience for the residents of Baxter and Marion Counties, as well as surrounding counties. This year, ASUMH incorporated the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, standard displays and an improved military display from colonial soldiers to soldiers from today to demonstrate the differences in the uniforms.

BS Christmas Parade

The Bull Shoals Christmas Parade was held Saturday, December 3, in conjunction with the Annual lighting of the Christmas Tree on the lawn of the Kirby Funeral Home on Hwy. 178.
