According to the Arkansas Department of Health, suicide is the leading cause of violent death in Arkansas. In 2020, 583 Arkansans died by suicide. That same year, close to 46,000 individuals died by suicide nationwide. That is one death every 11 minutes.

Pets of the Week

A great deal of activity has been going on at Have-A-Heart Pet Shelter and there is much more on the horizon. The third (and final for 2022) Volunteer Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic was held last week, during which 63 cats and 52-dogs were sterilized.

Arkansas Weekly Gas Price Update

Average gasoline prices in Arkansas have risen 5.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.23/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,826 stations in Arkansas. Prices in Arkansas are 11.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 40.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Adulting 101: Grown Up U Facts for Success

Do you or a young person in your life need a little help with learning how to “adult”? Have you ever asked yourself “Why didn’t anyone teach me this in school?” The Grown-Up U: Facts for Success podcast program brought to you by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service focuses on the life skills needed for young adults to successfully navigate the decisions and pitfalls of “adulting” in the real world. Our team of FCS (Family and Consumer Sciences) agents from across the state has worked together to produce relevant and research-based podcasts to help young people access the facts they need to succeed.

HORNE celebrates 60th

RIDGELAND, MISSISSIPPI – Two non-profits in New Orleans and Little Rock, Arkansas, soon will receive support for their community efforts thanks to HORNE and the HORNE Community Foundation. HORNE team members voted for the Youth Empowerment Project in New Orleans as the winner of $50,000, with Immerse Arkansas coming in second with an award of $10,000.
