Honoring fallen heroes . . .

Every May, our nation commemorates those who have died while serving in our armed forces on Memorial Day. In our local community the Rapert-Poyner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8347 has a short ceremony every year and they place flags on deceased veterans’ graves in community cemeteries.

Older American Month

Through no fault of my own, it has come to my attention that May is Older American Month. This gave me pause. Let me see if I have this straight. May is a month. I get that. For Older Americans. Um, what the what?!

Cooking with Mumzy!

Hello readers and friends of the Mountaineer Echo, I hope this week finds everyone in good health and happy spirits. As you all have read Robert and I are coaching Baseball like we needed something extra added to us, but the need was there so we stepped up, and I am very glad to say our guys are coming right along. They are getting better every game. We are having very close games in scoring, so we are excited to see these boys grow. Now I am sad that this season is almost over. Crazy how things work like that. Maybe next year they will all come back to play and start off with a better year. I hope everyone has a wonderful week and As Always remember the Little Things.

USDA Expands Flexibilities to Empower American Producers to Address Global Food Crisis

Washington— After repeated calls from U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, to devise a plan empowering American agricultural producers to help address the global food crisis, the U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced expanded flexibilities within the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) for participants with expiring contracts.

Life and Times of a Flippin Girl

I am still trying to find some photos to go with a couple of columns I have rolling around in my mind. That, combined with an early deadline due to the holiday weekend, briefly left me wondering what I would reminisce about this week. There were several newsworthy events this past week...the primary election, graduations, and, sadly, another school shooting.
