New Downtown Bentonville Hotel to Serve NWA Visitors and Locals

Bentonville, Arkansas – A new hotel is coming to the core of Downtown Bentonville, serving business and leisure travelers in true Northwest Arkansas style. This new, independent hotel is complete with a variety of amenities and services to support the visitors and the Bentonville community. The hotel is tentatively scheduled to begin operations in Summer 2024. The development of the hotel was first announced in June 2018.

Life and Times of a Flippin Girl

As I’ve mentioned in earlier columns, I grew up on Alford Street. For those unfamiliar with the street names in Flippin, that is the street that runs in front of the school. It is named after John Alford, who came to Marion County in 1880. He was my great-great-grandfather (the father of Ida Alford Wood) and he and my great-great-grandmother, Mattie, settled on a farm where the town of Flippin is now located. They moved here from South Carolina after the Civil War, first spending a few years in Missouri before finally settling here.

Rising from the ashes . . .

Sometimes it takes a major event to spur people into action. And there are times when something occurs that we may feel are catastrophic that in essence become the best thing to happen to us. I often tell people that have lost a job, didn’t get hired, or have had a relationship end that it’s at these times when we are devastated or disappointed that there could very well be something better to come along. I’ve had that happen in my life a few times. Now when things I view as negatives occur, I don’t become distraught as I know life has a way of evening out or becoming even better.

Bull Shoals City Council Workshop

Mayor David Nixon began the May 17 Bull Shoals Council workshop with two announcements. He said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduling a full road closure for Highway 178 across Bull Shoals Dam to deploy and remove equipment used to perform maintenance on the dam’s sluice gates. The road will be closed from 7 AM June 1 until 5 p.m. June 2, including overnight. Travelers will need to use alternate routes.
