Col. Wild Turkey

I never thought I would see wild turkey flocks in the Ozarks drop to the level I have witnessed this past winter. It is a serious situa- tion and state conservation departments from Oklaho- ma to Alabama and Georgia are placing restrictions on wild turkey hunting, changing things for the first time in decades, because they are concerned about what is happening to the wild turkey. Arkansas has done nothing and neither has Missouri. I don’t know whether Missouri’s Game Department is just too inept to know what to do or whether or not it is just a matter of trying to keep from losing money through lost revenue in turkey tag sales. I suspect the both.

Boozman Secures Improvements in Veterans’ Access to Lifesaving Cancer Screenings

fWashington – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), a senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, highlighted passage of a pair of legislative initiatives he championed to modernize Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) breast cancer screening policies and the delivery of lifesaving care for women veterans. The Senate unanimously advanced the Boozman-led measures in March.

James A. Gaston Butterfly Garden

If you have not been to the White River State Park Visitors Center and walked through the James A. Gaston Butterfly Garden, you are missing out on one of the beautiful gardens maintained by Marion County Master Gardeners. The garden was originally established in 2007, with a $5,000 grant from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Project WILD. The grant was awarded to a combination of agencies including Crooked Creek Conservation District, Arkansas State Parks, and Marion County Master Gardeners for a Butterfly Garden to teach youth of all ages about wildlife, conservation and the environment.

Huckabee Sanders visits Yellville

Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited Marion County on Tuesday, April 5, around 5:30 p.m. to rally support for her campaign to become the next Governor of the State of Arkansas. Huckabee Sanders addressed a crowd of approximately 300 people to a crowd in the parking lot outside of Black Sheep BBQ restaurant.
