LITTLE ROCK — Col. Brad Young isn’t just chief of law enforcement for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, he’s a dyed-in-the-wool hunter who was introduced to the turkey woods by his grandfather when he was 7 years old. During more than 30 years in the turkey woods, he’s learned quite a few tricks through trial-and-error and has seen many faces frustration when they wear a turkey vest for the first time. While he’s not about to give up the goods on his favorite turkey hunting locations, Young does have some great advice for everyone as we begin to see people heading to the woods in search of their first Arkansas gobbler.

Cockrills Country Critters Mobile Petting Zoo & Pony Rides

Cockrills Country Critters Mobile Petting Zoo & Pony Rides in Austin, Arkansas is a very special place for many people. They have families that come from all over Arkansas to visit and interact with the animals. One of our local veteran’s donated his Tortoises there due to him having to downsize and move. They host birthday parties, pony rides, have a petting area, and just in general a good place for families to come and enjoy there day visiting with the animals. For years, people have visited the Cockrills Country Critters Petting Zoo to see animals like lamas, camels, turkeys and chickens. The exhibit is also a place people come see exotic bedded animals like iguanas, hedgehogs and lemurs.

APA to Host Day of Debates April 21

A Day of Debates, featuring Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidates, will be held on Thursday, April 21 at Little Rock Union Station, lower level. A luncheon will also be part of the day’s schedule. The event is hosted by Arkansas Press Association and sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

Heritage Society receives a Gift

The Marion County Nursing Home Auxiliary has presented the Marion County Arkansas Heritage Society with a $2000.00 donation to purchase a fireproof file cabinet. The fireproof cabinet has been a need for the Heritage Society for many years and will be used to store photos, Bibles, diaries, and other irreplaceable documents.

Farm Bureau Ribbon Cutting

On Friday, April 1, Farm Bureau of Marion County officially opened the new satellite office in Bull Shoals located immediately next door to the Bull Shoals White River Chamber of Commerce (BSWRCC). The event was celebrated with a ribbon cutting, hotdogs and refreshments along with a tour of the new offices for residents of Bull Shoals and Marion County.
