Applications now open for Medical/Dental Scholarship from Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation

Mountain Home- Baxter Regional Medical Center is pleased to again offer the Dr. Robert L. Kerr Medical/ Dental Student Scholarship Program, established to assist medical and dental students from the Baxter Regional service area with tuition. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage medical and dental students to practice in the Baxter Regional service area after completion of their medical or dental degree.

Physical Exercise and Mental Health the Mind-Body Connection

WACO, Texas– In each new year, gym memberships spike and “losing weight” tops many lists of New Year’s Resolutions. An article published by the National Institutes of Health, however, shows that the benefits of exercise go far beyond the scale. The study authors explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical activities, based on information published between 2019 and 2021. They found that “…maintaining regular exercise is effective and engaging in alternative modes of physical activity is a key strategy to maintain mental health and well-being.”

YCC discusses article, other matters

With a full quorum of the Yellville City Council and city mayor Shawn Lane, the minutes of last month’s meeting were approved as read. The mayor announced there was no old business or new business on the agenda, but he did bring up the article on page four of the Mountaineer Echo by Sam Cooke dealing with Yellville and Flippin and the response on page 8 in the same issue of the legal notices.

Elle the Eel Obituary

Sadly, a local legend and state record holder has died. Little is known about Elle before she met Bull Shoals Postmaster Wilson Bowling June 24, 2018, when she got caught on his trot line in Bull Shoals Lake. Luckily for her Bowling and his neighbor fishing guide Greg Peterson decided to check the Arkansas record for the largest American eel.

Protecting Rural America

There is a major disconnect between the struggles Americans experience every day and the image President Biden and his team are trying to project. This is most apparent in rural America. In his State of the Union address, the president only mentioned the word “rural” once, and the administration has failed to prioritize the needs of our farmers, ranchers and agricultural producers.
