It has been a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful Year

We cannot believe 2021 has come to an end. It has been a tough year, but it has been a good year. We have cared for a substantial number of animals, found them outstanding homes and have successfully spayed or neutered close to 1000 animals from the Shelter, through the Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinics and the Community Cat Project. We wonder if we will ever see a time where animals are no longer abandoned or dumped in our communities.

(December 27, 2021) – Schools, universities, government agencies and nonprofit groups around the state could receive funds to further the important work they’re doing in their communities. The Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas will begin accepting mini grant applications January 1, 2022.

Little Rock– The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism has hired Jeff LeMaster to be its chief of communications. The chief of communications at ADPHT oversees all communications, marketing, public relations and media relations activities at the department. Le-Master will begin in the role on Jan. 3 at a salary of $74,094.

This is a follow-up on the Re-Homed Desert Tortoises as requested by a Marion County newspaper reader. The Re-Homed Desert Tortoises were covered in the November 18, 2021, edition of the Mountaineer Echo and I have been asked to do a follow up on where they are now and how they are doing.

Shirley Diane Helphenstine, age 66, of Yellville, Ar kansas passed away Tuesday December 28, 2021, at her home. Shirley was born November 28, 1955, in Phoenix, Arizona to Fred and Armetha Lackey.

Alvie Underwood, age 90, of Everton, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at his home. Alvie was born January 31, 1931, in Pyatt, Arkansas to Clint and Faye Richardson Underwood.

On January 1, 2022, Daniel Edward Reeves died at age 77. Dan Reeves was a legendary football coach in the NFL for 23 years from 1981-2003. Reeves coached the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons as a head coach. He coached for the Dallas Cowboys in 1972 and 1974-1980.
